Volunteer Opportunities
Below are a couple of service opportunities that we encourage both individuals and small groups to consider getting involved with.
Bayshore Christian Ministries
Contact: Rolando Zeledon, Director of Operations at rolando at bayshore.org or call him at 650-327-9942
The Opportunity: They have year long tutoring programs that students from our fellowship could get involved with, as well as great summer programs.
Background: In 1984 a group of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship students from Stanford founded Bayshore Christian Ministries (BCM) after studying the Book of Amos and Christian community development principles. Located in East Palo Alto, BCM is a holistic ministry that equips East-of-Bayshore youth to grow spiritually, gain life skills, and develop as leaders.
Night Outreach
We are a student-run organization focused on serving the Palo Alto unhoused community and raising campus awareness about issues of poverty and homelessness.
Join us every Friday night to talk with the unhoused and at-risk of downtown Palo Alto. We also distribute sandwiches and basic necessities.
Walks meet Friday at 8:00pm at the Haas Center for Public Service.
Young Life
Young Life doesn't start with a program. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don't happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency. So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what's important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks.
We believe in the power of presence. Kids' lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose.
This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God's love for them, will impact future decisions … careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world.
If you are interested in becoming a leader with high schoolers or middle schoolers please contact Audrey Blomgren (650)823-6939 [email protected]
